Software Engineer, Firenze

Building fast, accessible web that ships clean.

I'm Leonardo Bianco, a software engineer in Florence, Italy. I work across the stack, from backend services to the interfaces people use, and I care that both stay fast and hold up.

Selected Work

Eight years across logistics, healthcare, finance and industrial systems. Most of it is proprietary, so what follows is the work itself and the stack behind each build.

Industrial IoT / Monitoring

Live Plant Monitoring Platform

Real-time dashboards for industrial plants worldwide.

A web platform to monitor industrial plants across the globe through live dashboards and charts, surfacing issues and logging the activity performed on each plant. I also built a demo mode that anonymized the data for presentations with external audiences.

Reporting / Automation

Plant Performance Report Generator

Template-driven, scheduled PDF reporting at scale.

Users composed Word-style paginated templates with rich text, placeholders and drag-and-drop Plotly.js charts, then scheduled generation across plants. The pipeline filled the data from JSON and used Puppeteer to render each template to PDF.

Legacy / Reverse Engineering

Legacy Document System Rebuild

From unrunnable VBScript to a modern web app.

An old tool had become nearly impossible to run on its legacy VBScript stack, which decrypted documents through a very old Windows API. I reverse-engineered the VBScript and its database access, then rebuilt the whole application in Spring Boot and Angular.

Healthcare / Microservices

Multi-Hospital Clinical Platform

Microservices software running in ~20 Italian hospitals.

Part of the team behind a platform used by around twenty hospitals across Italy, built on a microservices architecture spanning both the frontend and the backend.

4PL Shipment Platform

Managing and tracking B2B shipments end to end.

Helped build a 4PL platform to manage and track B2B shipments, the startup's core product, plus a spreadsheet-like interface for shipment data. It runs on a company-owned Kubernetes (AKS) cluster with Gitlab CI/CD across every project.

About

Software engineer, shipping since 2017

I'm Leonardo Bianco, a software engineer in Firenze. I work across the stack, from backend services to the interfaces people actually use, and I care that both stay fast and hold up under real load.

Most of what I build has to keep running once it ships: APIs other teams rely on, web platforms that stay maintainable as they grow, internal tooling that makes the work faster. I'm most useful when reliability is the hard part.

When I'm not coding I read about distributed systems, mess with my dev setup, and take apart products I like to figure out how they work.

Journey

  1. Senior Software Engineer · Opus, Savino del Bene

Senior engineer working end to end on the logistics startup's platform for B2B shipping, from backend and frontend to the infra under it. Migrated the stack from a consultant-run setup to a company-owned Kubernetes (AKS) cluster and put CI/CD in place across every project.

  2. Software Engineer · Engineering Ingegneria Informatica

Built full-stack web apps in Angular and Spring Boot across healthcare and finance, tuning databases on Oracle, SQL Server and PostgreSQL. Led a legacy document system's rewrite onto a modern stack and mentored two juniors into the team.

  3. Software Engineer · Bridge Consulting

Designed and shipped software on Spring Boot, Docker and Vue.js, including a tool that automated industrial report generation and cut delivery times. Worked code review with a focus on security and quality, and turned client requirements into working software.

  4. Junior Software Engineer · Omnia Service

Designed, built and tested Java applications to spec, versioning with Git and SVN inside an eight-engineer team. Worked closely with technical support to track down and fix bugs, improving the stability of applications in production.
